LABEL: KOMPLOTT (SWE)
Artist: Ronnie Sundin
Title: The Amateur Hermetic
Label: Komplott (SWE)
Ref: escudre07
Format: CD
Price: 16 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
The Amateur Hermetic is an album about a nomadic lifestyle of moving to a new flat every second year, about feeding children and getting lost in occult references and religious doubts, about growing a beard. Isolation. The Philosopher's Stone.
It is also about recording the sound of your own voice and transforming it into music, to take a part of yourself and shape it into something unrecognisable and alien to yourself. The lack of sleep. Fire, Wind, Water, Earth. The black monolith. To let go of reality and slip into the dream.
It is also about people who tried to transform things, themselves and explore the inner secrets of nature through the use of alchemy. Angels. Queens. Peasants. Persian bread with peanut butter and lingonberry jam.
It was conceived in springtime, in moonlight, with drunks howling in the dark outside the window - forever lost, still searching for that missing purpose, that inner light, that furnace of life, love, wealth and rejuvenation.

Title: Longitude/Cratere
Label: Komplott (SWE)
Ref: escudre06
Format: CD Digipak
Price: 16 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
Until now the two compositions of the album,/ Longitude 013° 26' E / and / Cratere,/ which were originally commissioned pieces for the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation and DeutschlandRadioBerlin, have only been available to the public as radio broadcasts. The music is not dependent on the medium of radio however, but consists of concrete sounds composed as independent pieces. The material of the piece Cratere partly consists of recordings of the Italian volcano Etna, whereas much of the material on Longitude 013° 26' E - a longitude which runs through Berlin, Kap Arkona and the Baltic Sea - was recorded on sailing boats. The album cover is to be interpreted as a commentary between map and terrain, an abstraction which points to the difference between the origin of the sounds and its musical form. The terrain can be conceived through the map, the map through the knowledge and experiences which arise from the relation between the two.

Title: Busy Topic
Label: Komplott (SWE)
Ref: escudre05
Format: CD Digipak
Price: 16 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
All spec Kit / Andreas Kurtsson is a sound artist and musician, and has been active within the experimental electronica scene since the mid 90's. He has an extensive catalogue of concerts and sound installations in Sweden in particular, as one of the main artist behind the Starfield Simulation events and Laika projects in Malmö. He creates a stubborn sound scape from a sprawling material, taken from diverse sources such as found objects, damaged instruments, everyday environments and electronically treated sounds. Through these inputs Kurtsson lets an awkward groove emerge.

Title: The Bird You Never Were
Label: Komplott (SWE)
Ref: escudre04
Format: CD
Price: 16 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
"Before you play two notes learn how to play one note - and don't play one note unless you've got a reason to play it. " - Mark Hollis (1998)
The music of "The Bird You Never Were" is, despite its abstractedness, bare, personal and direct. The sounds create a state which forms a direct link to body and memory. Bertilsson creates a personal renewal of his musical experiences from composers such as Morton Feldman, Lars-Gunnar Bodin, Mamoru Fujieda, Akemi Ishijima, Jimmy Giuffre and Talk Talk. A poetic soundscape takes shape where the sounds could be seen as separate objects, focused timbres where every movement is executed with deliberate and simple elegance.

LABEL: KOMPLOTT (SWE)
Artist: Hans Appelqvist
Title: Bremort
Label: Komplott (SWE)
Ref: escudre03
Format: CD
Price: 16 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
Bremort is the name of a fictitious city where the listener takes part in scenes in the lives of the people of this average Swedish town. The album has no comprehensive theme but is rather built up around several small episodes, which have nothing in common other than the fact that they all take place in this same fictitious city during a limited period of time. The depictions are accompanied by different musical themes in which the beige existence of some of the inhabitants of Bremort are portrayed and linked together in recurrent intermezzos. As such Bremort is in a way a place of refuge, a sanctuary for the commonplace.
The musical imprint is made out of lucid harmonics and a largely straightforward structure created out of classical musical elements and accompanied by a simple, clear-cut theme. At the same time the arrangements form a tremendous patchwork quilt of various musical styles. The combination of arranged field-recordings and disharmonious voices together with the underlying theme of the album makes any effort of labelling the music futile. It is up to the listener to create visual points of references and make sense of the scenes. From the narratives the recipients are free to search for explanations in the underlying structure or set it aside to let the sounds guide them. Appelqvist avoids making a clear statement here. Not dictating the terms means that the interpretation of tone, between the serious and the flippant, is turned over to the recipient in the hope of creating emotional surprises. It’s these, initially unfamiliar styles of expression that serve as a primary guiding point for the listeners in there evaluation of the music.

Title: Mellow Out
Label: Riot Season (UK)
Ref: REPOSECD01
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
'Mellow Out' was the pinnacle of achievement for guitar driven brain crushing madness from the Japanese trio consisting of Asahito Nanjo (High Rise), Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mothers Temple) and Hajime Koizumi. Originally released on CD back in 1996 on the Charnel label, the pressing quickly disappeared and has been unavailable ever since making it one of the most sort after masterpiece's of the Japanese underground.

Artist: Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso UFO
Title: Minstrel In The Galaxy
Label: Riot Season (UK)
Ref: REPOSECD07
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
'Minstrel In The Galaxy' is the first Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso UFO studio recording since the departure of vocalist/synth goddess Cotton Casino earlier this year. To replace Cotton's space whispers, AMT have recruited Japanese duo AFRIRAMPO (who recently toured Europe with Sonic Youth) to contribute vocals to this album and they fill the void with ease. Musically you can forget the mind-melting guitar psychouts of previous AMT albums, this is the sound of a much darker AMT in comedown mode. Drones, acoustic guitars, misplaced voices and a beautiful 41 minute centre-piece title track all combine to make this their finest experimental studio work since the acclaimed 'Absolutely Freak Out (Zap Your Mind!)' double album. There's still enough of the original AMT sound going on here to keep the hardcore fans happy but also enough twists to bring in a whole new audience too.
LABEL: RIOT SEASON (UK)
Artist: Aufgehoben
Title: Anno Fauve
Label: Riot Season (UK)
Ref: REPOSECD05
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
'Anno Fauve' is the third album from UK outfit AUFGEHOBEN. You may know them as AUFGEHOBEN NO PROCESS but they've decided to drop the NO PROCESS for this release. Have no fear though, the album is once again awesome / challenging and 'out-there'. The band is once again joined by long-term friend GARY SMITH for this release which has been released on CD only.
LABEL: RIOT SEASON (UK)
Artist: Pharaoh Overlord
Title: #3
Label: Riot Season (UK)
Ref: REPOSECD09
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
Finland's Pharaoh Overlord have distilled thirty years of rock music into a slow, blistering, bubbling, psychedelic ooze. This is the third studio album from the acclaimed Finnish stoner/hypno gods. Pharaoh Overlord are a 'three piece' from Pori featuring Janne, Jussi & Tomi from the mighty CIRCLE. Musically it's a little bit more trippy and 'stonerish' than Circle - the vocals are gone but the hypnotic riffs are still evident and to the fore.
LABEL: RIOT SEASON (UK)
Artist: Tsukuyomi ni
Title: Tsurubami
Label: Riot Season (UK)
Ref: REPOSECD02
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
Third album proper from this Japanese trio consisting of Emi Nobuko (Drums) and ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE duo Higashi Hiroshi (Bass) and Kawabata Makoto (Guitar). All the music on this four song / 66 minute album was completely improvised, and not over-dubbed. The sounds fall through different styles of head splitting walls of sonic noise, quiet introspective lulls and freeform freakouts. TSURUBAMI (pronounced without the 'T') recently made their live debut in the UK & Ireland as part of the 'ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE SOUL COLLECTIVE' tour with fellow collective members Pardons and Makoto Kawabata playing solo. The tour was a great success and Tsurubami in particular blew a few eardrums and minds along the way. CD housed in clear tray jewel case with full colour artwork.
LABEL: SCRATCH RECORDS (CANADA)
Artist: French Paddleboat
Title: Conversations in Metric
Label: Scratch Records (Canada)
Ref: Scratch30
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
One half of the well respected Vote Robot solo with this tasty and unique concoction of organic beats, loops, and chimes. The music of French Paddleboat is all its own; gentle and joyful, subtle, graceful, perfectly disorienting in its comfort. Vibes, chimes, bells and clarinet provide melodic and harmonic measures, while odd sounds punctuate, and samples swim over lilting acoustic drumbeats, loops, and malfunctioning machines. Names we keep hearing in reference to this: Oval, Stockhausen, Pierre Henry, Raymond Scott, Can. Dizzyingly pleasing dreamscapes from this Kelowna teen; French Paddleboat defines the category "organica" for today's ever-popular electronica market, although it can be filed with equal prestige in the "Electronica", "Experimental", or "Pop" music categories.
LABEL: SECRETLY CANADIAN (USA)
Artist: Let The Darkness Fall
Title: Let The Darkness Fall
Label: Secretly Canadian (USA)
Ref: SC26
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
Let the Darkness Fall is the return of singer / lyricist Suzanne Langille. She is once again joined by longtime collaborator Loren MazzaCane Connors as well as Atlanta's Andrew Burnes and David Daniell of the group San Agustin. The result is an intensely bleak, yet satisfying, musical excursion.?The album is full of gently churning and ethereal moments which are steeped heavily in the musical and emotional concentration that only the wisdom afforded to veterans of this group's tenure can allow. Loren's lone blue notes quietly escape to the forefront of the dual guitar weaving of Andrew and David. Six of the seven songs are darkly textured by the bending tones of what is often a three-guitar chorus.

Title: Invisible Soundtracks
Label: Leaf Label (UK)
Ref: Reel4CD
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
Over two years since the release of the last instalment comes the third CD volume in Leaf's renowned 'Invisible Soundtracks' series. These days every electronic label worth its salt has released an 'imaginary' film soundtrack, though when the series began back in 1995, inspired by the work of musicians such as Brian Eno and Barry Adamson, Leaf was moving in relatively uncharted territory. Returning with what is without doubt the best in the series to date, 'Invisible Soundtracks: Macro 3' brings together some of the most talented new producers from around the world. Linked by a common conceptual theme that draws individual pieces together, it is a satisfying, though musically diverse, whole. All tracks are exclusive and specially commissioned for the project; as ever, the brief was to produce an evocative piece of music for an film that doesn't exist. Leaf's global instincts have harvested work from every corner of the world, with cuts from Japan, the USA, Finland, Canada, Germany, Austria and the UK with artists such as Manitoba (now know as Caribou), Nacht Plank, Rob Ellis, Rothko, Freeform, Keiron Phelan & David Sheppard, Sore And Steal, Broadway Project, Bass Communion, B. Fleischmann and others.
LABEL: ASC RECORDS (UK)
Artist: Graham Collier
Title: The Third Colour
Label: Asc Records (UK)
Ref: ASC CD28
Format: 2 CD
Price: 14 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
A 60th birthday celebration for Graham Collier, recorded at the Oris, London Jazz Festival, November 1997. "Four compositions [which] highlight Graham Collier's compositional strengths: the balance between notated and improvised elements and his masterly use of dynamic and textural contrast and his ease with all forms of jazz". - BBC Music magazine
"This concert succeeded superbly ... an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of a true British jazz original". - Chris Parker, The Times
LABEL: AMANITA RECORDS (FRANCE) IDOLA (UK)
Artist: Various Artists
Title: Recycling Buzz
Label: Amanita Records (France) / Idola (UK)
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
This is a joint release by Amanita Records, a small label based in Biarritz, France, and Idoia, a design company based in London. It features contributions from Formatt, Retina.it, Un caddie renversé dans l'herbe, Colongib, Forestopper, Eardrum, Alejandra and Aeron, Act, Voodoo Muzak and Idoia. The collection falls largely within the digital glitch zone of electronic music, and often with very mellow, spacious arrangements, downtempo, ambient, abstract, impressive. Occasional forays into other territories round things off: post-rock breaks and choral madness (via the impressive track titled "a blotch" by Act) and avant-jazz terrain ("suffer," by Eardrum) give a refreshing measure of diversity to the collection. Eardrum's track is a frantic and energetic piece, with a growing intensity of percussion and sax. Colongib's "pair up and board" sounds a little too close to our from Sonig, but otherwise nicely done. Alejandra and Aeron from Lucky Kitchen contribute a short piece of quiet, unobtrusive yet compelling ambience. Sad strings and a smart and minimal digital rhythm make Forestopper's "ver.di" another nice feature of the disc. Formatt, aka Peter Smeekens, gives us two impressive tracks of subtle, laid-back digital textures and found sounds. The disc also features an enhanced portion that includes a Quicktime movie by Christopher Graves and an interactive 3D sound module by Idoia. The movie was filmed at some metal scrapyard that seems more like a sombre graveyard, with strange metallic shapes and objects lying still and abandoned in a wooded area, or towering high in the sky. The soundtrack (by Colongib, also featured as track 4 on the disc) was composed of metal sounds from the same location. In all, it's a strong, varied collection filled with unique sounds and interesting ideas.

LABEL: KRANKY (USA)
Artist: Roy Montgomery / Chris Heaphy
Title: True
Label: Kranky (USA)
Ref: Krank033
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
In 1985 Roy Montgomery was briefly involved in a band called The Shallows (which released a single on Flying Nun in 1985), but gained wider exposure as a member of Dadamah. The singles and one LP Dadamah recorded (posthumously collected on the "This Is Not a Dream" CD by kranky 1995) marked the quartet as one of the most unique groups to come out of the fertile NZ scene. Montgomery's guitar drone/strum, while anchored in an appreciation of the Velvet Underground, Television and Wire, showed itself to be remarkably wide ranging.
In 1994 Roy Montgomery began a trip around the world that would result in a wealth of releases. After finishing the initial Dissolve album with Chris Heaphy in New Zealand, he visited the U.K. and played live with Flying Saucer Attack and accompanied writer Kirk Lane. While in Guatemala, he spent the night at one of the temples at the Mayan ruins in Tikal. On a stop in Chicago he got a $65 guitar in a pawn shop, a Teisco matching the one Rouy's favorite Hound Dog Taylor modeled on the cover of his first album. Arriving in New York City, Montgomery apartment sat, borrowed a four-track tape deck and started recording.
LABEL: LEAF LABEL (UK)
Artist: Susumu Yokota
Title: Image 1983-1998
Label: Leaf Label (UK)
Ref: BAY 9CD
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
Susumu Yokota has earned praise for his super-funky blend of house, techno, disco, jazz and breaks, with releases on Japan's Sublime Records, among others. "[He] has more ideas in the space of one album than most house producers have in their entire careers" said Mixmag of 1999, his most recent album on Sublime. The Leaf Label has licensed 'Image 1983-1998', a collection of mainly acoustic and oddly moving instrumental and vocal pieces from Yokota's own Skintone label. It's a very personal project, representing a very different side to his musical persona to the one you may already be aware of. Five of the tracks were recorded with guitars and organs in 1983-4, the remainder were inspired by those songs and were recorded in 1997-8. There are already another two Skintone albums ready to go, both in very different styles. Yokota is proving increasingly difficult to pin down, which can only be a good thing as far as we're concerned.??Already synonymous with dance music in Japan, Yokota first attracted worldwide attention back in '92 with Frankfurt-Tokyo Connection on Harthouse. Since then he has enjoyed a prolific career as both a DJ and recording artist, working under a host of pseudonyms, including 246, Ringo and Prism (for Sublime and Reel Musiq) and Stevia (for NSCom). 'Morino Gakudan' and 'Kawano Hotorino Kinoshitade' were included on the 'Osmosis' sampler.
LABEL: ECSTATIC PEACE (USA)
Artist: Gene Moore
Title: Twisting Wires
Label: Ecstatic Peace (USA)
Ref: E#91
Format: CD
Price: 12 EUR INCLUDING SHIPPING
Gene Moore is Thurston Moore's older brother. He lives in the suburban wilds of western Connecticut and for the past couple of decades has been wood-shedding his basement, working in a void parallel to developments of noise-guitar classicism. Twisted Wires is the culmination of hours of sifted through tapes, resulting in six tracks of howling machine saw-like sounds, banged strings, squeaks, beautiful finger picking, chord progressions, and background echoes. Pleasant, creepy, and delightful.

Brian Lavelle was born in 1972 in Glasgow, Scotland and now lives in Edinburgh. He has been creating music for around 15 years using a variety of electronic devices.
